Interworld Electronics has released the ST-IPHD-LC HDMI Over IP Extender from Network Technologies Inc. Each HDMI Over IP Extender consists of a local unit that connects to an HDMI source, and a remote unit that connects to a HDMI display.
In point-to-point configuration one ST-IPHD-LC transmits digital video and audio signals to one ST-IPHD-R-LC receiver up to 330 feet away using a single CAT5e/6/7 cable. In a multi-cast configuration one ST-IPHD-LC transmits HDMI signals to more than one ST-IPHD-R-LC receivers using VLAN isolation via a managed network switch.
Standard LAN switches can only support one transmitter. To support for multiple transmitters a Managed Network Switch with VLAN/IGMP support is required. In this case the managed switch must support port based IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, IGMP, and permit duplicate IP addresses across the VLAN domains. Each VLAN then acts as a separate HDMI Over IP Channel on the network. A PC can be used to access the built-in HTTP Interface of the managed network switch to control which signal is being watched at each location.
The ST-IPHD-LC supports HDTV resolutions to 1080p and computer resolutions to 1920x1200. The ST-IPHDMI is compliant HDCP high definition TV standards, includes a built-in EDID table and supports embedded digital audio through HDMI compatible TVs or audio receivers.
Each ST-IPHD-LC includes one ST-IPHD-R-LC receiver. Additional remote receivers can be purchased separately.
