Optically isolating the digital inputs from each other, and from the computer, assures smooth, error-free data transmission in noisy, real-world industrial environments. These boards are especially useful in applications where high common-mode external voltages are present. Isolation guards’ electronics from transient voltage spikes and offers greater common-mode noise rejection from electronically noisy surroundings containing machinery and inductive loads. In addition to protecting industrial applications from accidental contact with high external voltages, the isolation also eliminates troublesome ground loops.
The USB-IDIO-16L Series is designed for use in rugged industrial environments but is small enough to fit nicely onto any desk or testing station. The PCB boards are PC/104 sized (3.550 by 3.775 inches) and ship inside steel powder-coated enclosures with anti-skid bottoms. A DIN rail mounting option is available.
The OEM (board only) versions are perfect for a variety of embedded applications. What makes the OEM options unique is that the PCB size and pre-drilled mounting holes match the PC/104 form factor. The boards can be added to any PC/104, PCI-104, or PCI/104-Express stack with an available USB port. The USB-IDIO Series OEM boards can also be installed using standoffs inside other enclosures or systems.
The USB-IDIO-16L Series is supported by most USB enabled operating systems and includes a free Linux, Mac OS X and Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 compatible software package. This package contains sample programs and source code in Visual Basic, Delphi, C++ Builder, and Visual C++ for Windows. Third-party support includes a Windows standard DLL interface usable from most popular application programs, and includes example LabVIEW VIs. Embedded OS support includes Windows XPe.
