Interworld Electronics has released a new range of isolated PCI Express serial communication cards. The PCIe-ICM Series feature 2 or 4 isolated, software selectable, RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial ports. The cards feature a x1 PCI Express connector and can be used in any available x1, x2, x4 or x8 PCI Express expansion slot.

Each RS-232 port can support data communication rates up to 921.6 kbps and provide full modem control signals ensuring compatibility with a broad variety of serial devices. The RS-422 and RS-485 modes support data rates up to 3 Mbps. Industry standard DB9M connectors are used on each card. The PCIe-ICM cards feature16C950 UARTS and use 128-byte transmit/receive FIFO buffers to decrease CPU loading and protect against lost data in multitasking systems.

Isolation is required to guard electronics from transient voltage spikes and offers greater common-mode noise rejection in electrically noisy surroundings containing industrial machinery and inductive loads. In addition to protecting industrial applications from accidental contact with high external voltages, isolation eliminates troublesome ground loops. The PCIe-ICM Series provide 15kV ESD protection and 2kV isolation between channels, the PC bus lines and ground on ALL signals. The cards are ideally suited to factory automation, military/mission-critical, industrial ON/OFF control, security systems, energy management, manufacturing, process monitoring, and kiosks applications.

The cards install as standard COM ports in all operating systems including Linux, Mac OS X and Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/7.
