Available from Interworld Electronics: The Advantech B+B Smartorx formally (Quatech’s QT Series) of in-line converters and repeaters. These small devices convert between RS-232 and RS-422/485 to extend the distance that RS-232 equipment can communicate by up to 1.3 km. The converters are available in a variety of versions and offer features such as isolation, LEDs to indicate data flow, port-power and external power options. No software drivers are necessary and the devices are compatible with any PC-based system because the converters function as an extension of the computer's built-in serial ports.
The 422PP9R is a port-powered single-channel RS-232 to RS-422 converter with DB9 connectors. The 422PP9TB is a port-powered RS-232 to RS-422 converter. It provides a DB9 connector at the RS-232 site and a terminal block for connecting RS-422 signals.
The 422LPCOR converts unbalanced RS-232 signals to balanced RS-422 signals. This self-powered converter uses a DB25 connector at the RS-232 side and a terminal block for connecting RS-422 signals. The 422OISPR is a single-channel optically isolated RS-232 to RS-422 converter, powered via an included 12 VDC power supply. For easy signal connections, the RS-232 side has a DB-25 female connector and the isolated RS-422 side has a DB-25 male connector.
The 485OTLED converts unbalanced, full or half duplex RS-232 signals to balanced, full or half-duplex RS-422 or RS-485 signals. Isolated power and ground on the RS-422/485 side are generated internally using the included 12VDC power supply. Connections are made through a DB25 female connector on the RS-232 side, and via enclosed terminal blocks (easily accessible via a slide panel) on the RS-422/485 side.
Finally, the 485OP is an optically isolated repeater that protects RS-485 equipment from damaging ground loops and transient spikes on the data lines. It can function in full duplex or half-duplex mode, with either 2-wire or 4-wire systems, and can be used to increase the number of possible nodes to more than 32. It can also be used to convert non-tristateable RS-422 equipment to 2-wire RS-485 devices. The 485OP is powered via an included external 12 VDC 300mA power supply.
