The MLB-S4102 is an industrial grade Serial-to-Ethernet device server designed to add Ethernet and Internet connectivity to any serial device and to eliminate the cable length limitation of legacy serial communication.

By using the software provided the built-in COM port of the MLB-S4102 can be virtualized to appear as a standard PC COM port in Windows. All Windows applications that require a COM port can then access the remote COM port on MLB- S4102. Uses can then transparently communicate with a serial device connected to the MLB-S4102 over an Ethernet connection on a local area network or across the Internet.

The MLB-S4102 also supports paired connections. Also known as Serial Tunnelling, paired connections require two MLB-S4102 connected via Ethernet with one device configured and a client and one as a master to initiate the communications link. Serial data can then be sent directly, without the use of a computer, from one MLB-S4102 to the other.

The MLB-S4102 features a built-in web server allowing the device to be remotely configured via a browser. Other features include:
  • Support for RS-232/422/485 serial protocols
  • Virtual COM port drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
  • UDP responder for device discovery (UDP Search)
  • Static or DHCP network assigned IP address
  • Firmware updatable via the Ethernet connection
  • 32-bit MCU that efficiently handles all network traffic
  • 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet, RJ45 connection
  • Redundant DC power input and Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE)
  • Automatic RS-485 direction control
  • Male DB-9 and screw terminal block
  • 12~48 VDC power input
  • -25~75C operating temperature
